UAB assistant coach Joe Guthrie has been promoted to the title of associate head coach, the program announced on Friday.
Guthrie is entering his second season on staff with the Blazers, having joined head coach Jimmy Kolaitis’ staff shortly after Kolaitis’ own hiring in Birmingham. In his first season with the program, Guthrie helped lead the Blazers’ offense to a .290 batting average and a .354 on-base percentage.
“I am very fortunate to have the staff that I work with every day,” Kolaitis said in a school press release. “Coach Guthrie has been a big piece to what we do at UAB. He is one of the hardest working coaches in the country and I am glad he is on our side.”
Prior to joining the Blazers, Guthrie spent a single season on staff at Louisiana-Lafayette. His coaching resume includes six seasons as the head coach at Marion Military Institute, as well as stints as an assistant coach at Penn State and Bucknell.
He previously coached with Kolaitis on staff with the professional Scrap Yard Dawgs organization in the summer of 2017.
