Former San Diego State catcher Jenavee Peres is joining UCLA for the 2020 season.
Peres joins the Bruins as a graduate transfer with one season of eligibility remaining. She last played for San Diego State during the 2017 season.
In her three years at SDSU, Peres set a number of program records, including the Aztecs’ career batting average mark with her .409 clip. She also set the on-base percentage (.466) and slugging percentage (.743) records, ranking in the top ten in program history in an additional four categories.
As a junior in 2017, Peres batted .454, a mark that ranked fourth in the nation that year. She earned second-team all-American honors after the season, and was also named the Mountain West Conference’s Player of the Year.
“We are excited to have Jenavee accepted into our graduate program for Principles of Effective Coaching and Teaching,” UCLA head coach Kelly Inouye-Perez said in a university statement. “She adds power to our lineup and great experience behind the plate, and she looks forward to pursuing her masters and competing with her teammates on the field.”
UCLA finished the 2019 season with a 56-6 record, winning the Women’s College World Series title. The Bruins will look to replace some major offensive pieces in 2020, including Team USA-committed Bubba Nickles and Rachel Garcia.
