Rachel Glazebrook, a member of the coaching staff at Union University, was found dead in her home on Wednesday. She was 27 years old.
Glazebrook spent her playing career at North Greenville University, a Division II school in South Carolina. During her playing career at North Greenville, Glazebrook earned the conference Player of the Year award in 2014 and earned NCCAA all-American honors. She ended her playing career with a .388 batting average, fourteen home runs, and 141 career hits. A dual-threat player, Glazebrook recorded forty-five wins from the pitching circle, with 661 career strikeouts.
Boasting a burgeoning trophy case from her playing career, Glazebrook earned a trio of first-team all-conference awards and two nominations to the Conference Carolina’s All-Tournament team. She also holds the NGU single-season school record with a .395 batting average in 2012.
Following her playing career, Glazebrook served in assistant coaching roles at Gardner-Webb and Shorter University before joining the Union coaching staff in August.
In a statement released by the university, Union President Samuel W. “Dub” Oliver said, “We grieve the passing of Coach Glazebrook and offer our sincerest condolences to her family, friends and the Union softball team. Rachel lived her life for Christ, and we take comfort in knowing that she is now in the presence of the Savior. I ask the entire Union community to be in prayer for Rachel’s family, friends, fellow coaches and student athletes in the days ahead.”
