Brian Dunn has been hired as the new head coach at UT-Martin.
Dunn is the fourth head coach in program history and follows the retired Donley Canary in the position. Canary retired after the 2019 season and is the winningest coach in program history.
For his part, Dunn was most recently the head coach at the University School of Jackson, a high school approximately an hour from UT-Martin’s campus. The program’s coach since 2005, Dunn led his team to state titles in 2010 and 2012.
Dunn’s coaching resume includes a nine-year stint at Union University, where he led the program while the school’s athletics still competed at the NAIA level. During his near-decade-long career at Union, Dunn collected a 449-108 overall record, with six conference championships and six NAIA World Series appearances.
In addition to his softball coaching, Dunn’s resume also includes a seven-year stint as the volleyball coach at Union and further experience at the high school level. A San Diego State graduate, Dunn played baseball for the Aztecs and helped lead the program to a conference championship during his career.
UT-Martin finished the 2019 season with a 29-27 overall record, including a 10-12 mark in Ohio Valley Conference play.
