Southern Miss head coach Wendy Hogue resigned on Friday.
Hogue had been the head coach of the Golden Eagles for five years, collecting a record of 124-146 during her tenure. The squad earned a share of the Conference USA West Division championship, and, as well as the 2019 season, saw the Golden Eagles reach the 30-win plateau.
During her tenure at Southern Miss, Hogue proved proficient in acquiring top-of-the-line transfers, including former Saint Francis pitcher Abby Trahan, who earned the conference’s Pitcher of the Year this season in her first year at USM. The 2019 roster also included a trio of former SEC players in Lacey Sumerlin, Chase Nelson, and Sarah Van Schaik, all of whom joined USM via transfer.
The Golden Eagles posted a 30-22 overall record during the 2019 season, including a 13-11 mark in Conference USA play. The program recorded non-conference wins over Michigan State, UT-Arlington, Sam Houston State, Nicholls State, and McNeese, and were eliminated from the C-USA tournament on Wednesday in a loss to UTSA.
Prior to taking the helm at Southern Miss, Hogue spent ten years as the head coach at NAIA William Carey University, leading that program to six NAIA National Tournament appearances and a runner-up finish in the 2014 tournament. Hogue coached thirteen all-Americans during her time at WCU and is a member of the William Carey Hall of Fame as a player. During her playing career at WCU, Hogue played under then-program head coach Glenn Moore.
