Who is she? Ashli Holland, a former star infielder for the UNLV Rebels.
What is she known for? Holland was a four-time all-conference honoree during her career as a Rebel, and was just the fifth player in program history to achieve that feat, and the first to do so solely after the program’s realignment to the Mountain West conference. In 2011, she was named the Mountain West Player of the Year after batting .372 that season, with nine home runs and a time-leading fourteen doubles.
Here’s something interesting… After her collegiate playing career ended, Ashli played professionally overseas in Holland and Italy before ultimately deciding to hang up her spikes. She also is a DJ, something that she started while in college, and says she’s always wanted to be a motivational speaker “with a splash of stand-up comedy mixed in.”
Quotable quote: “If I could pass on some advice it would be this: stand for something. Out work your teammates, set an example of what you want your program to stand for. Set that precedent; nothing in life worth getting comes easy. It comes with a cost. You pay in blood, sweat and tears; in hard work and grit. So even if you’re a freshman, out work your seniors and don’t be afraid to outshine others by doing so, because when you start out working everyone, you elevate your whole team.”
What’s she up to now? Following her international playing career’s end, Ashli worked in the Enterprise management program, with stints in the technology recruiting and sales industries following. She recently started her own clothing brand called CBDC (an acronym for Consumed by Dream Chasing). About the brand, she says, “It’s still in very early stages but I wanted to create a brand that goes against the grain, a platform that encourages; inspires; and empowers people to remember the dreams that they have in life and to get focused and stay consumed by chasing that dream.”
