A total of 78,361 fans watched the WCWS in-person at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, with an average of more than 8,700 fans in attendance per game. Hall of Fame Stadium’s official sell-out figure is 8,400.
Three sessions broke individual records during the week, with Thursday’s session 2, Friday’s session 3, and Monday’s session 8 & first game of the Championship Series all breaking attendance records for their particular time slots.
Friday’s winner’s bracket session, which included games between Arizona and UCLA, as well as Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, set the all-time single-session attendance record, for any time slot, with more than 9,800 people in attendance and a large standing-room-only crowd.
The 2019 attendance breaks a record of 78,078, previously set in 2015. Worthy of note: Prior to this year’s WCWS, the two most-attended World Series’ both saw a Championship Series that went to three games. UCLA swept Oklahoma in this year’s Championship Series in just two games.
In addition to the in-person attendance record, the Women’s College World Series also performed in record-breaking fashion on the airwaves, averaging more than one million viewers, a 20% increase year-over-year. The Championship Series between UCLA and Oklahoma averaged 1.57 million viewers, with 1.8 million viewership for UCLA’s championship-clinching game two victory.
According to an ESPN press release on the WCWS, the Women’s College World Series saw an increase across all key demos. Of note:
- Men 18-34: up 45%
- Women 18-34: up 41%
- Men 12-17: up 75%
- Women 12-17: up 36%
