TRENDING NOW: NCAA TRANSFER TRACKER / COLLEGE COACHING TRACKER
Former Iowa pitcher Lauren Shaw is transferring to UCLA, she announced via social media over the weekend.
“Y’all thought I was finished?” Shaw wrote on Instagram. “Blessed to spend my last two years of eligibility in Los Angeles as a UCLA bruin I can’t wait to compete with the best of the best both on the field and in the classroom. Go Bruins!”
Shaw spent the first four seasons of her career at Iowa. As a sophomore in 2019, she redshirted the season and also regained a year of eligibility thanks to the NCAA’s waiver following the abbreviated 2020 season. She has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
While at Iowa, Shaw assembled a career 21-18 overall record, with a 2.19 career ERA and 189 strikeouts in 255.1 innings of work. During the 2021 season, she went 9-4 in the circle with a 2.03 ERA in the conference-only season.
At UCLA, Shaw will join a pitching staff that will have to replace departed senior Rachel Garcia. In addition to Garcia’s graduation, presumed-heir apparent Megan Faraimo is recovering from a broken hand that kept her out of the Women’s College World Series, raising questions about her health and potential for continued dominance.
With Garcia and Faraimo leading the way, the Bruins’ pitching staff notched a 1.43 team ERA during the 2021 season
