What is she known for? Gossett was the Fighting Irish ace for most of her career in South Bend, earning ninety-two career victories. Her wins total ranks third in Fighting Irish program history, while her 819 career strikeouts ranks fourth all-time. She was named the Big East Championship’s Most Outstanding Player in 2009, helping lead the Irish to the NCAA tournament. She earned a pair of all-conference and all-region honors during her junior and senior seasons.
Here’s something interesting… Brittney shares a funny anecdote… “I am deathly afraid of clowns. During my sophomore year at Notre Dame, I had an accounting final on Halloween. My professor dressed up as a clown, and I was so scared, I left the final. Thankfully, he let me take it in another room!”
Quotable quote: “My favorite memory from my career is winning the Big East championship in 2009, in my senior year. I pitched in the semi-finals and the final game. It was a memory that will never be forgotten. It was a very close game against Depaul, who was ranked ahead of us, and we beat them 1-0. My mom was in attendance and my dad watched the game from our living room in California on ESPN. I felt like it was a moment that was embraced by all my teammates, coaches, and family members. It was a great way for myself and our senior class to leave our mark on the Big East.”
What’s she up to now? After graduating from Notre Dame, Gossett entered the private sector in Chicago. She later moved back to Southern California, got married, and had two children. In 2016, Gossett left corporate America and entered the coaching world. After coaching high school and travel ball, Gossett was hired this summer as the pitching coach at Cal Baptist. The Lancers will compete in their first season at the Division I level in 2019.
