Who is she? Casey Africano, a former utility player for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
What is she known for? Africano appeared in more than thirty games in each season of her four-year career in South Bend, starting sparingly and serving more as a role player for her team. In 2013, she led the Irish freshman in three different statistical categories, including slugging percentage and on-base percentage. She was also recognized with numerous academic honors during her career, including a trio of ACC Academic Honor Roll nominations and being named a Division I Scholar Athlete in 2016.
Here’s something interesting… Casey’s mom, Michelle, is a world-champion synchronized swimmer and appeared in a 1999 Austin Powers movie starring Mike Myers.
Quotable quote: “Love the big moments, but love the smaller ones more. Put in the work in every aspect of your life. Walk tall and carry your head high no matter what. Listen to your body. GRATITUDE is life changing”
What’s she up to now? After graduating from Notre Dame, Casey earned her Master’s degree from Southern Methodist University, and now works at Texas Christian University (TCU) in the student-athlete development department. Part of her duties include organizing service opportunities for the school’s athletic teams, a role that she says has her “basically in the people business!”
