Who is he? Jake Schumann, a longtime former Division I assistant and head coach.
What is he known for? Schumann spent more than decade as a collegiate head coach, beginning his career at Carl Albert State College and Texas A&M-Kingsville before ultimately taking over the program at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and, later, Florida International. While in Corpus Christi, Schumann set that program’s all-time wins record and was named the Southland Conference Coach of the Year in 2011. He also served on the coaching staffs at Ole Miss and Iowa.
Here’s something interesting… Asked for an interesting note or factoid, Schumann provided an intriguing one: “I invented the “NO Zone” [pitching aid product]that Schutt Sports so graciously bought and marketed a few years back,” he said.
Quotable quote: “The game owes us nothing. We owe it everything. Everything I have gotten in my life is because of athletics: My wife, my jobs, my friends. Take nothing for granted and work for what you earn. It will not be given to you.”
What’s he up to now? In 2015, Schumann married former Wright State and professional softball star Sharon Palma. He now works as a special education teacher and realtor in the state of Michigan. Of his realty business, through AtHome Realty in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Schumann says, “If anyone needs a house on the Lakeshore… I know a guy.”
