Who is she? Ashley Christy, a former outfielder for the Georgia State Panthers.
Here’s something interesting… Coming from an athletically-gifted family, Ashley had three cousins that played baseball for St. John’s University. All were pitchers, and one cousin, Craig Hansen, was selected in the first round of the MLB draft in 2005 by the Boston Red Sox.
Quotable quote: “The game has provided me with so many life lessons that it is hard to choose one, but the one that has benefitted me the most is work ethic. I was neither the most technically-sound softball player, nor was I physically the biggest, so working hard every day led me to compete at a high level. Whether it was on or off the field, I learned that working hard and giving your best effort transfers to all aspects in life. It is something that I highly value as a person and hope to reflect on others.”
What’s she up to now? After graduating from Georgia State, Ashley served a summer internship in the strength & conditioning department at Georgia Tech. She later worked in similar positions at Appalachian State and Texas before accepting her current position in the strength & conditioning department at Hofstra. She serves as an assistant S&C coach and works with a number of the school’s athletic teams, including the women’s basketball and softball programs, among others.
