West Florida head coach Ashliegh McLean earned her 100th career victory on Saturday in an 11-3 win over Lee University.
As the Argonauts’ head coach celebrates her milestone win, here are Five Fast Facts about her career.
1. She is in her third season as UWF’s head coach.
McLean took the reins of the program in May of 2018, and the 2021 campaign marks just her second full season of leading the Argonauts.
2. She was named Gulf South Coach of the Year in her first season.
The Argos had quite a year in McLean’s inaugural season leading the program, including winning a conference championship and advancing to the D2 Championship. McLean was named the Gulf South Conference’s Coach of the Year that same season.
3. She is coaching at her alma mater.
After beginning her career at a pair of junior colleges, McLean spent the final two seasons of her playing career at West Florida. She started nearly forty games in the circle and also played right field for the Argos.
4. She is a Texas native.
A native of McKinney, Texas, both of the junior colleges that McLean attended were also in the Lone Star State – North Central Texas College and McLennan CC.
5. West Florida is the only place she has ever coached.
Following her graduation from UWF, McLean joined the Argos’ coaching staff under Melissa Paul. She guided the team’s pitching staff to much success in four years as an assistant before being promoted to the head coaching position.
