Nicholls has elected not to renew the contract of head Angel Santiago, the school announced on Monday. Santiago spent the last ten years as the Colonels’ head coach, collecting a 255-229 overall record and a 130-103 mark in Southland Conference play. The Colonels earned the league’s regular-season championship in 2018, their first under Santiago’s guidance and also the first such title in more than two decades. Paige Smith has resigned as the head coach of Seton Hall. Smith’s departure was announced on Monday morning; she spent the last nine years as the Pirates’ program leader. Under Smith’s guidance, the Pirates collected a 165-247-1 overall record and a 61-99 mark in Big East conference play. She led the program to the conference tournament twice in her first three seasons at the helm. Balazs spent the last four seasons as the Gorillas’ head coach, collecting a 74-106 overall record and a 37-45 mark in MIAA conference play. In 2021, Balazs’ squad posted a 15-29 overall record with a 9-17 conference result. Pittsburg State finished its season with a loss to Northwest Missouri on May 1 and did not make the MIAA tournament that was played this past weekend. Following a vote from the school’s Board of Regents, the University of Hartford will officially seek to reclassify from Division I to Division II within the next five years. The official vote was held on Thursday, and followed a school-commissioned review that was published in mid-April. The realignment was said to be necessary due to budget issues and declining enrollment that was exacerbated by COVID-19 effects, according to various media reports.
