Penn standout Emma Nedley has entered the NCAA’s transfer portal, sources told JWOS on Thursday. Nedley entered the portal in the last week of February, per sources. Nedley is the first high-profile Ivy League softball player to enter the transfer portal following the conference’s decision to do away with conference play for the second consecutive season in 2021. Reached by JWOS on Thursday, Nedley said that she intends to graduate from Penn in spring of 2022 and will transfer and play following that time. “I want to finish what I started here,” Nedley said. Iowa State “super senior” Sami Williams has been named the JWOS Player of the Week for Week 3 of the regular season. Williams batted .611 across five games during week three, helping lead her team to a 4-1 record on the road in Tempe, Arizona. She recorded multi-hit games in each matchup during the week’s slate. Sunday’s scheduled Santa Clara vs. Cal matchup has been cancelled due to COVID-19 contact tracing protocols. In what could be a first-of-its-kind incident to be reported this softball season, the game was called off due to contact tracing from an umpire in Santa Clara’s previous game on Friday. Santa Clara lost to Cal Baptist 7-5 in a faceoff on Friday at noon; that was the Broncos’ most recent matchup prior to Sunday’s scheduled game. A van carrying members of the University of Southern Indiana softball team was involved in a crash on Saturday night. The Screaming Eagles played a pair of games in Owensboro, Kentucky on Saturday and were traveling home when the accident occurred. Owensboro is less than fifty miles from USI’s campus in Evansville, Indiana.
