Charlotte Morgan has been named the head coach at Cal State Northridge (CSUN). Morgan was hired as the volunteer assistant coach at Cal State Fullerton earlier this summer, and spent the last few months in that role. Prior to her hiring at Fullerton, Morgan spent two years on staff at UT-Arlington, a tenure that ended following the 2019 season. She was part of the coaching staff that helped lead the Mavericks to the NISC tournament championship in 2019. The annual National Fastpitch Coaches Association convention, initially planned to be held in Dallas, Texas, is going virtual thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. Set to run from December 9-11, the convention will include both live and pre-recorded content from dozens of college coaches, as well as others. Several aspects of the annual convention have been converted to a virtual format and will still take place, albeit in a new fashion. The informal, topic-specific Fireside Chats will return, as do Divisional caucuses and breakout sessions. Saginaw Valley State has hired Christie Ambrosi as the program’s new head coach, the school announced last week. Ambrosi most recently was the head coach at Embry-Riddle Arizona, spending two leading the Eagles program. She collected 29-33 record during her tenure, and led the squad to the first-ever California Pacific Conference tournament appearance in program history with a berth in 2019. Loyola Marymount has named Christian Conrad as the program’s new pitching coach, the school announced in a statement on Thursday. Conrad’s hiring completes the inaugural coaching staff of new head coach Tairia Flowers. Following her own hiring earlier in the fall, Mysha Sataraka was hired as the top assistant at LMU after following Flowers over from CSUN, where she had held a similar position. Most recently, Conrad was the volunteer assistant coach at Florida State, where his duties included coaching first base for the Seminoles. The National Pro Fastpitch league has cancelled its 2021 summer season, according to a press release on Thursday morning. “Confronted with multiple COVID-related problems, the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) has decided to suspend games for the 2021 season,” the statement read. This is the second consecutive league to be cancelled in similar fashion. Reasons given for the early cancellation included the unavailability of home venues for the league’s member teams, as well as continued COVID-19 protocols and quarantine requirements imposed on international teams who also field teams in the league. Suiting up as a Texas A&M Aggie for the first three years of her career gave Milligan the opportunity to play under Hall-of-Famer Jo Evans. Who is she? Shelby Stracher, a former catcher for the Towson Tigers. What is she known for? Stracher started 190 games in her four years at Towson, a career that spanned from 2015-18. She earned all-region first-team honors, along with an all-conference second-team nomination, as a sophomore and helped lead the Towson program to the first postseason appearance in program history with a berth in the 2018 NISC tournament. One of the nation’s most popular multi-team tournaments, “the Nutter” is held in Cathedral City, California and regularly features several dozen Division I teams, including many of the nation’s top-ranked programs.
