Gardner-Webb has named Bailey Wigness as the program’s new head coach. The school announced the hiring on Friday afternoon.
Wigness spent the last three seasons as the head coach at NAIA USC Beaufort, collecting a 78-45 overall record and a 29-23 conference mark during her tenure. Wigness led the team to 40 wins and an appearance in the NAIA National Tournament in 2019, her first season at the helm.
Prior to her tenure at USC Beaufort, Wigness spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Boise State. Her resume also includes a stint on staff at Arizona Christian.
During her playing career, Wigness was a 3-time All-PAC 12 honoree at Arizona State. She helped lead the Sun Devils to the 2011 National Championship and ended her career with a .371 batting average and 130 runs scored.
Gardner-Webb finished the 2021 season with a 5-29 overall record, including a 4-17 showing in conference play. The Runnin’ Bulldogs were 24-5 during the shortened 2020 season. Former head coach Tom Cole resigned on April 7th.
