Becca Mueller has been named an assistant coach at Cal.
Mueller spent the shortened 2020 season on staff at Ball State, helping guide the Cardinals’ offense to a trio of top-35 national rankings, in on-base percentage; slugging percentage; and runs scored. The Cardinals batted .304 on the year as a team, a 60-point increase from the previous season.
In a statement released by the school, Cal head coach Chelsea Spencer said in part, “”I am very excited to bring Becca back home to the West Coast and into our Cal Bear Family. She has acquired extensive hitting knowledge throughout her young coaching career by working with some of our game’s most advanced minds and technology. With her expertise and ever-evolving knowledge for the game, I look forward to her elevating us to a championship offense.”
Mueller’s coaching resume includes a single season as the volunteer assistant at Georgia in 2019. She also spent time on staff at Colgate and College of Charleston, her alma mater. She joins fellow former Ball State assistant Mitch Roberts on staff at Cal; Roberts was recently hired to be the Golden Bears’ pitching coach.
Cal finished the abbreviated 2020 season with a 13-11 overall record, as well as a team batting average of an even .300. The Golden Bears hit fifteen home runs and scored 138 runs before the year’s abrupt end. Spencer was hired as the program’s new head coach in May.
