Central Washington has named Alison Mitchell as the program’s new head coach.
Mitchell succeeds Mike Larrabee at the helm of the Wildcats’ program; Larrabee departed CWU in October to take an assistant coaching position at Maryland.
Previously the head coach at Redmond High School, Mitchell spent four years leading that program and guiding the squad to four league tournament berths and three division titles. She also has coached with the Washington Ladyhawks organization since 2006, including as a head coach within the program since 2009.
Her coaching resume also includes stints as head coach at Skyline High School and Eastside Catholic High School.
“We are extremely excited to have Alison join the Wildcat family and lead our softball program to new heights in the classroom and competition,” Central Washington athletic director Dr. Dennis Francois said in a statement. “Her passion for the sport and its ability to transform the lives of young women became more evident as the search and interview process evolved. Coach Mitchell’s reputation and ties to the Pacific Northwest will be invaluable in the recruitment of the best student-athletes from our region.”
The Wildcats finished the 2019 season with a 33-20 overall record, including a 21-7 conference mark, and reached the NCAA tournament. The squad posted a .325 team batting average, while the program’s pitching staff recorded a 4.60 cumulative ERA.
