Charlotte head coach Ashley Chastain has signed a contract extension with the 49ers.
The new deal will keep Chastain in Charlotte through the 2026 season; her previous deal was set to expire in 2023. She was initially hired as the Niners’ head coach in the summer of 2019.
During Chastain’s tenure at Charlotte, the Niners have collected a 45-32 overall record with a 16-7 showing in Conference USA play. The team finished the 2020 season one win above the .500 mark before the year abruptly ended, and came back to finish twelve games above .500 in 2021.
Finishing the 2021 season with 31 wins, the Niners clinched the CUSA East Division title for the first time in program history and finished the year ranked 63rd in the RPI standings.
Prior to taking the helm at Charlotte, Chastain served tenures as pitching coach at Ole Miss, Michigan State, and the College of Charleston. She played at South Carolina, graduating in 2011.
