Lizzie Shubert has been named the JWOS Player of the Week for her efforts during opening week of the FGCL summer season.
Shubert, an infielder for the Myakka City RiverMocs, put together an impressive offensive performance during her team’s three games in the first week of play, as she batted .556 (5-9) on the week, with three home runs and seven RBIs.
In her team’s inaugural game against the Bradenton Lynx, Shubert’s bat got hot right away. as she hit two solo home runs and contributed to her team’s 7-6 victory. On Friday, as her team took on Fastpitch U, Shubert continued her hot streak, again going 2-3 at the plate and collecting a home run, double, and 5 RBIs, as she played a hearty role in her team’s offensive onslaught and eventual 11-3 victory.
During the week’s finale on Saturday, Shubert went 1-3 at the plate and helped her team to a 2-1 win, ending the week as the league’s only undefeated team.
Shubert will be a rising junior in 2021 due to the NCAA’s extended eligibility waiver for all spring sport athletes. During her three years at Stetson thus-far, she owns a career .257 batting average, with 36 extra base hits; 15 home runs; and 64 RBIs, along with a career slugging percentage of .460.
