Florida State has added an inter-conference transfer in pitcher Danielle Watson, the school announced on Friday.
Watson, who is transferring from Louisville, will sit out the 2020 season, as dictated by ACC transfer rules, but will be eligible for play for the Seminoles in 2021 and will have two years of eligibility remaining at that time.
During her two-year career at Louisville, Watson collected a 26-25 overall record, with a 3.52 ERA and 193 strikeouts to her credit. She held opponents to a .225 batting average during her Cardinals tenure.
An All-ACC Academic Team member in 2019, Watson tossed a complete game 2-hitter in the NCAA regional round against 16th-seeded Northwestern, allowing just one run as she shepherded her team to an upset victory over the Wildcats.
“Excited to bring Danielle into the family,” Seminoles head coach Lonni Alameda said in a statement. “She’s a competitor and a hard worker that challenges herself every day. Even though she will not play for us this coming season, Danielle will be an asset to our pitching staff, and the team as a whole. Can’t wait to have her on campus in the spring and join the program.”
The Seminoles enter 2020 looking for their seventeenth ACC championship in program history, just two years removed from the first-ever Women’s College World Series title in FSU history. The squad finished the 2019 season with a 55-10 overall record, including a 19-5 conference mark. The ‘Noles earned the #4 overall seed in the NCAA tournament, but were upset in the Super Regional round by 13th-seeded Oklahoma State.
