Lauren King is transferring to Green Bay, the school announced on Wednesday. The team led off their National Signing Day festivities with the news.
“I chose Green Bay because I was looking for a place where I could continue my softball career and play in a program determined to make NCAAs,” King said in a school statement. “I wanted a place where I would feel at home on and off the field and Green Bay seemed like the perfect fit for me. I am so excited to join the Green Bay family and cannot wait for what the next two years hold!”
King began her career at South Dakota, playing for the Coyotes in 2018 as a true freshman. She appeared in three games in the circle, allowing three walks and recording two strikeouts. She also appeared in eleven games offensively, with one at-bat and four runs scored.
After transferring to Rhodes College prior to the 2019 season, King pulled double-duty for her new team, finishing second on the team with a .375 batting average and leading the squad in the circle with a 2.31 ERA and fifteen wins during the 2019 season. During the abbreviated 2020 campaign, she batted .429 with a 1.145 OPS and registered a 2.65 ERA with 54 strikeouts in the circle.
This summer, King played for the Fastpitch U team in the inaugural season of the Florida Gulf Coast League, and was selected as a league all-star.
Green Bay finished the shortened 2020 season with a 4-15 overall record; the Phoenix recorded a .219 team batting average while the pitching staff registered a 7.77 cumulative ERA.
