Who is she? Jamia Reid, a former outfielder for the California Golden Bears.
What is she known for? Reid played for Cal from 2009-12 and was one of the top short game players of her day. She earned two All-American second team honors in her junior and senior seasons, with a trio of all-region honors also in her trophy case. In her freshman season, Reid set the Golden Bears’ single-season stolen base record, and took sole possession of the team’s all-time mark in that same category during her sophomore campaign.
Here’s something interesting… During her career at Cal, there were two “Reid” jerseys on the Golden Bears’ roster. Jamia and identical twin sister Elia spent all four years of their collegiate careers suiting up for Cal, most often manning the corners of the Golden Bears’ outfield. Jamia wore the #3 jersey, while Elia wore #5.
Quotable quote: “I definitely miss stealing bases and running around the outfield chasing down balls. My favorite memory was at the College World Series. I was up to bat and we were playing LSU. We had Victoria Jones on 3rd base and a time-out was called. I told my coach to put my twin sister, Elia, on base because I knew she would score if I hit the ball on the ground. Coach put her on base. I went back up to bat, I slapped the ball, she scored, and I was safe as well. My mom always called it ‘double trouble.'”
What’s she up to now? After graduating from Cal, Jamia was drafted to the National Pro Fastpitch league by the Akron Racers. She unfortunately suffered a concussion in her first season with the Racers that would end her playing career. After her career finished, Jamia returned to California and in 2014, began a career as a probation officer in Riverside County. Now Mrs. Jamia Hensley, she also has two boys.
