At Louisiana-Lafayette, Alderink will be reunited with Gerry Glasco, the Cajuns’ head coach who was hitting coach at Texas A&M during the early years of Alderink’s career in College Station.
The Aggies’ starting second baseman from 2016-18, Alderink made headlines last fall when she walked away from softball, electing instead to simply finish her education in lieu of playing her senior year. She is expected to join the Cajuns as a graduate transfer with a single year of eligibility remaining.
Alderink earned the Aggies’ starting second baseman job as a freshman in 2016 and did not miss a game for the squad at that position over her three-year career. A Keller, Texas native, she earned SEC all-freshman honors that season. She was also named to the all-South region second team in 2017. As a freshman, Alderink scored fifty-eight runs, a mark that ranks third all-time in single-season program history. She led the Aggies in hits in 2017 with fifty-nine base knocks.
A career .318 hitter, she boasts a career on-base percentage of .424, with eight home runs and eighty-five RBIs to her credit. She started 181 games during her three years as an Aggie, recording just twenty-five field errors during that time.
In joining Louisiana-Lafayette, Alderink becomes the fifth Division I transfer to join the Cajuns for the 2020 campaign. The Cajuns look to build on a 2019 season that saw them post a 52-6 overall record, with a perfect 25-0 showing in Sun Belt conference play.
