TRENDING NOW: NCAA TRANSFER TRACKER / COLLEGE COACHING TRACKER
Cal has named Kristina Thorson as the program’s new pitching coach.
Thorson, a program alum and Cal Hall of Famer, will return to Berkeley for her first career collegiate coaching position.
“After 15 years, I’m thrilled to be coming home to the program that gave me everything,” Thorson said in a school statement. “To have this opportunity, with my former teammate, is a dream come true. It’s still very surreal that something we talked about when we played together is actually coming to fruition.”
A three-time All-American during her playing career with the Bears, Thorson was named PAC-10 Pitcher of the Year as a senior. She currently ranks in the top five in four statistical categories, including first in career saves; third in appearances; and fourth in both wins and strikeouts.
Following her collegiate career, Thorson spent five seasons playing professionally in the National Pro Fastpitch league and was named league Rookie of the Year in 2007. She also played professionally in Italy in 2009-10.
Thorson’s coaching resume includes fourteen years as a private coach, as well as stints at both the high school and travel ball levels.
