Former UT-Dallas utility player Lexi White has passed away, the school announced in a press release on Tuesday. She was 20 years old.

White had endured a year-long battle with brain cancer, experiencing symptoms following her freshman year with the Comets that led to her diagnosis.

“Lexi showed tremendous heart and fight after her initial diagnosis last spring,” UT-Dallas head coach James Kling said.  “We will miss her greatly as a teammate and friend; but most of all, as a person. Lexi always had a smile on her face and worked hard both on and off the softball field. We will always remember her coming and leaving practice on her skateboard and again working extra on her game so that she could be the best player she could be.”

As a freshman in 2019, White appeared in fifteen games from the pitcher’s circle, finishing the season with a 2-2 overall record and a 6.07 ERA in 40.1 innings of work. She batted .308 during the year, collecting an RBI and scoring three runs in seven starts. She later returned to the program as a student-assistant on the Comets’ coaching staff.

As a high school athlete, White was a four-time all-district selection and also played volleyball.
