Madison Preston has left the Arizona State program, sources confirmed to JWOS on Monday.
Preston transferred to Arizona State prior to the 2020 season, after spending the first two years of her career at Alabama. In her lone season as a Sun Devil, Preston made fifteen appearances in the circle, including seven starts. She posted a 5-4 overall record, with a 2.77 ERA and 69 strikeouts on the year, with 53 innings of work to her credit.
As a freshman and sophomore at Alabama in 2018 and ’19, Preston recorded a 7-5 record in the circle, going without a decision for the entirety of her sophomore campaign. She collected a 4.54 ERA during her two years with the Crimson Tide, allowing 44 earned runs in 87.2 innings of work with sixty strikeouts.
In the circle, Arizona State will now have some questions about their depth behind ace and former Long Beach State transfer Cielo Meza. “Super freshman” Lindsay Lopez made four pitching appearances with two starts in 2020 and highly-touted prospect Allison Royalty is a true freshman. Former Arizona dual-threat player Marissa Schuld will have to sit out the 2021 season as an in-conference transfer.
