Neither Maryland nor Louisiana Tech has officially confirmed the move, though sources said an announcement could come as soon as Monday.
Montgomery spent the last seven years as the head coach at Louisiana Tech, guiding the Lady Techsters to three Conference USA championships (regular season & tournament) and a pair of NCAA regional appearances. He shepherded back-to-back C-USA Players of the Year in Morgan Turkoly (2018) and Jazlyn Crowder (2019).
During his tenure at Louisiana Tech, Montgomery was named the 2017 Louisiana State Coach of the Year by the Louisiana SportsWriters Association. He was named the Conference USA Co-Coach of the Year during the 2019 season, while his staff also fearned Coaching Staff of the Year honors for the Mideast Region from the NFCA.
Prior to his tenure at Louisiana Tech, Montgomery spent time as the head coach at Georgetown College, Centenary College, and Northern Colorado.
At Maryland, Montgomery will take over a Terrapins program that posted a 20-31 overall record during the 2019 season. The Terps went 4-19 in Big 10 conference play on the year, with an overall team batting average of .288 and a cumulative team ERA of 5.84. Since finishing at the .500 mark during the 2015 season, the Terps have reached the 20-win plateau just once.
