Former Creighton head coach Mary Higgins and Wisconsin-Eau Claire leader Leslie Huntington have been elected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame as the Class of 2021.
Higgins spent seventeen years as the head coach at Creighton, starting the program and later serving as both coach and women’s athletic director at the school. She collected 564 career wins and led the Blue Jays to two AIAW World Series appearances, as well as a pair of appearances in the NCAA’s Women’s College World Series.
In addition to her coaching accomplishments, Higgins was the first Division I chair of the NCAA Softball Committee; was the WCWS tournament director from 1982-87; and was inducted into the Creighton Athletics Hall of Fame in 1987.
Huntington enters her 20th season at Wisconsin-Eau Claire with the 2021 season and is one win away from 500 career victories. Huntington led the Blugolds to the Division III national championship in 2008, and previously was part of two National Championship-winning squads while on staff at Simpson College in the 1990s.
Huntington, who owns a 499-261-2 overall record during her head coaching career, also led the Blugolds program to a 3rd-place national finish in 2007. In addition to her collegiate coaching endeavors, Huntington runs her own consulting business, More Than A Game Performance.
Higgins and Huntington will be inducted at the 2021 NFCA Convention in Las Vegas. The 3-member induction Class of 2020 will also be officially inducted at that time.
