Syracuse assistant coach Mike Steuerwald has been hired as head coach at Gaston College, JWOS has confirmed.
Steuerwald will be tasked with building the Gaston softball program from the ground up, as the team will compete for the first time ever in 2022. The junior college initiated their inaugural athletics program last winter.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Steuerwald was a longtime coach at the professional level. He was part of the Coaching Staff of the Year in both 2010 and 2013 in the National Pro Fastpitch league and won five league championships. He also served in an administrative role with the Scrap Yard Dawgs during the team’s brief membership in the league.
Gaston College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and is located in Dallas, North Carolina. Former NBA player Gene Banks is serving as the school’s inaugural athletic director.
