Texas senior Miranda Elish has been named the JWOS Player of the Week for Week 1 of the regular season.
Elish enjoyed a stellar weekend at the plate and in the circle, finishing the week with an .818 batting average at the dish. The Longhorns senior clubbed four home runs, including a grand slam in the weekend finale against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. She collected seventeen RBI over the course of the weekend, reaching base safely in each of her team’s six games.
In the circle, Elish posted a perfect 2-0 record in ten innings of work, allowing six hits and two runs, recording a shutout in her second appearance of the weekend. She gave up just two walks, but recorded eighteen strikeouts and finished the weekend with a 1.40 ERA.
Against Maryland in game two of the Longhorns’ season, Elish was a perfect 4-4 at the plate, notching a pair of doubles and a home run, scoring twice and collecting six RBIs. She also recorded six RBIs in the final game of the weekend against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, recording a perfect 2-2 showing at the plate go along with her second career grand slam.
Thanks in no small part to Elish’s prowess with the bat and in the circle, the Longhorns are riding a streak of six consecutive run-rule victories for the first time in program history, and were one of just three Big 12 teams to start the season undefeated after opening weekend.
