Ole Miss interim head coach Ruben Felix has filled out his coaching staff for the 2020 season, adding Damon Haecker as an assistant coach.
Haecker had been the head coach of the Grand Lake Mariners, a collegiate summer league team based in Celina, Ohio. He previously was a high school assistant coach at Lee Scott Academy in Auburn, Alabama, and coached an Alabama-based travel baseball team in 2018.
During his collegiate baseball career at Auburn, Haecker started at six different field positions throughout his four years on the Plains. Boasting a career .258 average and a .399 on-base percentage, Haecker scored eighty-three runs on 158 hits as a Tiger. He was a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll for the 2013-14 year, and served as a representative of the Tigers’ baseball team on the department’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
In his personal life, Haecker is married to the former Danielle Brewer, who previously served as the head coach at Division II Shorter University. Brewer spent her own collegiate playing career at UCF, where she played under a coaching staff that included Ruben Felix.
Felix was promoted to the Rebels’ interim head coach role in early December, and will serve in the position through the 2020 campaign. Assistant coach Kim Schuette, who was hired in the summer, remains on staff as the pitching coach.
