Saginaw Valley State has hired Christie Ambrosi as the program’s new head coach, the school announced last week.
Ambrosi most recently was the head coach at Embry-Riddle Arizona, spending two leading the Eagles program. She collected 29-33 record during her tenure, and led the squad to the first-ever California Pacific Conference tournament appearance in program history with a berth in 2019.
Prior to her stint at Embry-Riddle, Ambrosi spent a number years as a private instructor and clinician in the Kansas City area. The position at ERAU was her first at the collegiate level.
During the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, Ambrosi was a member of Team USA and recorded one hit and one RBI in nine games as the US team emerged as gold medal winners. Ambrosi played collegiately at UCLA and was a 2-time All-American, 3-time all-conference selection, and helped lead the Bruins to the national championship in 1999.
Saginaw Valley State finished the abbreviated 2020 season with a 16-2 overall record. The Cardinals posted a team batting average of .334, while the program’s pitching staff assembled a cumulative ERA of 2.80 on the shortened year.
