The JWOS Player of the Week award will be shared for the second consecutive week, as Florida International’s Jackie Schoff and LSU’s Shelbi Sunseri have been announced as the co-recipients of the award for week eight of the regular season.
Schoff helped her team to a midweek split against #4 Florida and a series victory over Marshall in conference play. The speedy outfielder went hitless in the first game against Florida, but recorded four straight multi-hit games to close the weekend. In the second game of the doubleheader against the Gators, Schoff went 2-4 with two RBI and a run-scoring double off of pitcher Natalie Lugo.
In the three-game set against Marshall, Schoff recorded nine base hits in thirteen at-bats, including two doubles. She drove in five runs against the Thundering Herd and scored three times. Her RBI single in the seventh inning helped add an insurance run to the Panthers’ lead and eventual victory in the series’ rubber match.
Sunseri, in her first full week back from injury, hit .500 on the week in a set of games that included a midweek matchup against Southern Miss and a weekend conference series against Missouri. The standout freshman clubbed three home runs on the week and drove in four runs.
Against Southern Miss, Sunseri went 2-3 with a triple and a home run, scoring twice in just her third game after returning from an injury. She hit a home run in each of the final two games of the series against Missouri and earned two walks.
The Player of the Week honor is the first of the season for each player, and the first award for the C-USA and SEC conferences in the 2018 campaign.
