UPDATE: East Carolina has officially announced Winkler’s hiring.

Shane Winkler will be named the head coach at East Carolina, sources confirmed to JWOS on Friday.
Winkler spent the last three seasons as the head coach at George Washington, leading the Colonials to 91 wins and a pair of postseason appearances. In 2019, the Colonials earned a share of the conference title and participated in the National Invitational Softball Championship postseason tournament, finishing with a 44-win season.
In 2021, the Colonials finished the year with a 37-11 overall record and a 23-1 mark in conference play. The Colonials won the A10 conference championship and earned the first-ever NCAA tournament berth in program history.
Prior to his tenure at GW, Winkler spent a decade as the head coach at Charleston Southern, amassing 261 wins at the helm of that program. His resume also includes stints at Marshall and Danville Area Community College, as well as both head- and assistant-coaching stints in the National Pro Fastpitch league.
East Carolina finished the 2021 season with a 16-33 overall record and a 7-17 conference showing. Former head coach Courtney Oliver resigned on May 15.
