South Carolina has named program alum Kaela Jackson as the program’s new hitting coach.
Jackson spent the last three seasons at Michigan State as an assistant coach, working with the Spartans offense. She helped lead the Spartans to a 26-26 record in 2018, a year after shepherding the team’s offense to top-ten rankings in three national statistical categories. In the 2017 season, the State hitters ranked 6th nationally in slugging percentage; 8th in doubles per game; and 9th in home runs per game.
Prior to joining the Michigan State staff, Jackson had served on the staff at her alma mater, a volunteer assistant coach and graduate manager for the Gamecocks.
As a player, Jackson began her career at Chattanooga State Community College and was named a junior college all-American before transferring to South Carolina to finish her career. She served as a Gamecock team captain in 2012.
She joins the staff of the Gamecocks as the squad is coming off of an impressive 2018 campaign that saw them post a 49-17 overall record, including a 15-9 mark in SEC play. The Gamecocks advanced to the SEC tournament’s championship game and earned the #9 overall seed in the NCAA tournament, where they advanced to the Super Regional round before being eliminated.
