Wichita State has signed head coach Kristi Bredbenner to a contract extension that will last through the 2023 season.
In 2019, Bredbenner will enter her eighth season as the head coach of the Shockers, collecting a 202-181 overall record during the first seven seasons of her tenure. She is the second-most winningest coach in program history and led the Shockers to an NCAA tournament appearance in 2018.
The 2018 appearance in the NCAA tournament’s regional round was the second for the program under Bredbenner’s tenure, and the second in three seasons for the Shockers. The program earned their first-ever NCAA tournament victory in the 2016 regional round and advanced to the Fayetteville regional final in 2018.
The Shockers won the 2016 Missouri Valley Conference regular season and conference tournament titles. The athletic program joined the American Athletic Conference (AAC) prior to the 2018 season and posted a 32-23 overall record in their inaugural campaign in the AAC.
Bredbenner received a two-year contract extension after the 2016 season that was to stretch through 2021. The new deal, announced on Thursday, will stretch through the 2023 campaign. Terms of the contract were not immediately known.
