Iona has hired Katie Jansson as the program’s new head coach.
Jansson spent the 2018 season as the head coach at Monroe College, a junior college in New Rochelle, New York. In her sole season at the helm of the Mustangs, Jansson led the program to a 21-19 record and a postseason berth.
An Iona alum, Jansson is also familiar with the program from the coaching side, having served as an assistant coach for the Gaels in 2017 when the squad won the conference regular-season title and participated in the inaugural National Invitational Softball Championship postseason tournament.
Jansson’s coaching resume also includes a stint as a graduate assistant at Manhattanville College in 2016.
The former starting catcher for the Gaels, Jansson was a part of three MAAC championship-winning squads and ranks in the program’s career top ten in three statistical categories, including games played with 199.
At her alma mater, Jansson takes the helm of a Gaels program that posted a 19-27 overall record during the 2018 season, including an 11-9 conference mark. The Gaels earned the #4 seed in the MAAC tournament but went 0-2 and were eliminated.
