Gerry Glasco will be named the new head coach at Louisiana-Lafayette, JWOS has learned exclusively.
Glasco currently holds the position of Associate Head Coach at Auburn, a position that he accepted only earlier this fall. Prior to that, he had been in a similar position at Texas A&M for three seasons and was largely credited for the Aggies’ breakout offense that went to the Women’s College World Series in 2017.
A longtime SEC coaching veteran, Glasco also spent six seasons at Georgia in the mid-2000s and early 2010s. He has also coached at the travel ball and high school levels prior to entering the collegiate coaching game.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Glasco also has presided over two NPF championship-winning squads, including the USSSA Pride in 2014 and the Scrap Yard Dawgs, who won their first-ever league title under his watch in the 2017 summer season.
At Louisiana-Lafayette, Glasco joins a Ragin Cajuns program mired in controversy following the dismissal of Michael Lotief in early November. The vast majority of the players on the ULL roster have publicly expressed support for though recent reports released by the school’s administration have detailed conduct including improper interactions with members of the athletic department staff and profane interactions with members of the softball team. The release of the report caused Lotief’s attorney to threaten litigation.
The Ragin Cajuns finished the 2017 season with a record of 47-8 and ended the year atop the Sun Belt conference standings before being eliminated with a 2-2 record from the Baton Rouge regional. The biggest pieces of their starting lineup have not graduated, but sources in Lafayette recently confirmed that at least 2/3 of the Ragin Cajuns roster is seeking to transfer to other schools. It remains to be seen how Glasco’s first roster as a collegiate head coach will take shape.
