Fresno State senior Savannah McHellon has been named the JWOS Player of the Week after a power-filled performance in her team’s games over the weekend.
McHellon hit .429 on the weekend, with four home runs spread out across her team’s quartet of games. She also appeared twice in the pitching circle, pitching seven innings and striking out eight, while allowing just six hits and four runs.
In her team’s opening game of the weekend against Illinois, McHellon went 2-4 with a grand slam home run and a double. She appeared in the pitching circle in relief duty and allowed three hits and two runs while recording two strikeouts.
Later in the weekend, the Bulldogs senior hit three home runs, in a second matchup against Illinois and later against Cal Poly. She also threw a full five-inning game against Cal Poly and allowed three hits and two runs, earning the win in the circle for her team.
The honor is the first of McHellon’s career and the first for a Fresno State player this season.
