A look back at 2019 The Cardinals posted a 35-23 overall record during the 2019 season. That included a 12-12 conference mark and the team went 16-5 at home while posting an 8-12 record in away games. A shutout victory over Cal State Fullerton and a tight 1-0 loss to Northwestern showed some promise from the Cardinals in 2019’s opening weekend, though their showing at the ACC/B1G Challenge was less than stellar, wtih a 1-3 record over that weekend that also included a win over then-#15 Michigan. In memory of those we lost in 2019… KaBria Arnold, former pitcher, Morgan State (D1) and Michigan-Dearborn (NAIA) Arnold passed away in a shooting on November 10th. She played for Morgan State in 2017 and Michigan-Dearborn in 2018. Mark Campbell, coach, Pacifica HS/OC Batbusters In early March, Campbell fell ill during a Batbusters game and was hospitalized, but died the following day. He coached a number of well-known names in the softball world, and was a retired homicide detective. Stacy May-Johnson has been named the new head coach at Utah Valley, the school announced on Monday night. May-Johnson spent the past two years on staff at Eastern Kentucky, where she held the title of associate head coach. She helped guide the Colonels to eighty wins in a pair of seasons, including the Ohio Valley conference title in 2018. Savannah McHellon has been named an assistant coach at Alabama State, the school announced on Sunday evening. McHellon spent her freshman year at Georgia before transferring to Northwest Florida State College, then later Fresno State for the final two years of her career. She played in twenty-eight games during her single year at Georgia, and was named a NJCAA All-American during her year at Northwest Florida. That season, she batted .405 with twenty-three home runs and posted a 1.054 slugging percentage and .571 on-base percentage. Pitcher Mikayla Santa Cruz is joining the Creighton Blue Jays via transfer, the school announced earlier this week. Santa Cruz, a sophomore hurler, will be immediately eligible for the Blue Jays following her transfer from Arizona State, where she spent the 2019 season. During her single season in Tempe, Santa Cruz accrued 20.1 innings of work in the circle, including fourteen appearances as a relief pitcher.
