Ashley Obrest has been named the volunteer assistant coach for the Boston University Terriers. Obrest spent the last eight years as the head coach at Boston College, before parting ways with the Eagles after the 2019 spring season. During her tenure at the helm of the BC program, Obrest collected a 200-219 overall record, with a 66-113 mark against ACC opponents. Former Hofstra standout Lisa Ciavardini Mulosmani will be inducted into the program’s Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2020. Ciavardini, as she was known during her playing career, was a third-team all-American in 2000 and was a four-time all-Region selection during her time in Hempstead. The 2001 America East conference Player of the Year, Ciavardini earned a trio of all-conference honors during her career. Charline McCombs, a Longhorn State philanthropist and supporter of the University of Texas softball team, passed away on Thursday, according to media reports in San Antonio. She was 91 years of age. McCombs, along with husband Billy Joe “Red” McCombs, were supporters of the University of Texas, and frequent supporters of the Longhorns’ softball program. In the late nineties, the Texas softball complex was dubbed “Red & Charline McCombs Field” after the couple’s generous support. Caty Reeves has been named the new assistant coach at Abilene Christian. The Ole Miss Spirit made note of Reeves’ hiring in an interview with Ole Miss interim head coach Ruben Felix on Tuesday. Florida State has added an inter-conference transfer in pitcher Danielle Watson, the school announced on Friday. Watson, who is transferring from Louisville, will sit out the 2020 season, as dictated by ACC transfer rules, but will be eligible for play for the Seminoles in 2021 and will have two years of eligibility remaining at that time. Amanda Chidester won the HitTrax Home Run Derby for the second consecutive year on Friday. The Home Run Derby – which takes place in a batting cage and uses the HitTrax software to track the “home runs” – was held at the NFCA Convention in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
