Florida International and head coach Gator Rebhan have parted ways in what is being described as a “mutual separation”, sources have confirmed to JWOS.
Rebhan spent four seasons as the head coach of the Panthers, with the highlight of his tenure coming with an at-large NCAA tournament berth in 2017. The program set single-season record for wins and winning percentage during the 2017 season and ranked in the top fifteen nationally in ERA and fielding percentage.
During Rebhan’s tenure at the program’s helm, the Panthers recorded a 135-91 overall record and a 53-40 record in Conference USA matchups.
Before assuming the program’s head coaching position, Rebhan was an assistant coach at Florida International and led the Miami Stingrays travel ball organization for more than a decade and was a state championship-winning high school head coach at the turn of the century.
Heather Gelbard, formerly the head coach at Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) and a newly-hired assistant at FIU, is expected to be named the program’s interim head coach in Rebhan’s stead, according to JWOS sources.
