Jodi Hermanek Horton has been named the new head coach at Pittsburgh.
Horton spent ten years as the head coach at Ohio and led the Bobcats to the NCAA tournament via the Mid-American Conference’s tournament championship in 2018. It was the second tournament appearance during her decade at the program’s helm, with the other coming in 2014. The Bobcats reached the Knoxville regional championship before falling to Tennessee.
Under Horton’s guidance, since 2010, the Bobcats have only recorded three seasons with a record below the .500 mark, twice finishing the year a single game away from the plateau level. The Bobcats reached 40 wins in back-to-back seasons in 2017 and ’18.
Prior to taking the reins at Ohio, Horton spent four seasons as the head coach at Southern Utah, a tenure that included back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances in 2006 and 2007. Her coaching resume also includes a short stint as a high school head coach and four years as an assistant coach at Colorado State-Pueblo, her alma mater.
At Pittsburgh, Horton takes over a Panthers squad that posted a 33-18-1 overall record on the 2018 season, including a 16-6 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play. The Panthers reached the ACC tournament championship game, where they fell to Florida State, but did not receive a bid to the NCAA tournament.
