Ben Garcia has been hired as the new head coach at Northern Colorado.
Garcia spent the last four seasons at Division II Colorado Mesa, leading that program to the NCAA tournament in three consecutive seasons. Under his guidance, the Mavericks posted a 169-49 overall record and a 131-21 conference record.
During his time at Colorado Mesa, Garcia was twice named the conference Coach of the Year, in 2016 and 2018. The program ended the 2018 campaign with a 48-5 overall record and were ranked #1 in the nation for seven straight weeks.
Before assuming the helm at CMU, Garcia spent three years as the head coach at Otero Junior College and spent more than two decades as a high school coach in Colorado.
At Northern Colorado, Garcia takes the reins from Shana Easley, who accepted the volunteer assistant’s position at Arkansas earlier in the summer. The Bears posted a 28-28 record on the 2018 season, a Division I program record for victories. The squad earned an invitation to the NISC postseason tournament, but were eliminated in the first round.
