Virginia Tech’s softball program has paused all team activities following a positive COVID-19 test within the program. The Hokies athletic department released a statement on Thursday morning. “The Virginia Tech softball program is temporarily pausing all team activities,” the statement read. “This decision has been made due to a positive test, subsequent quarantining and contact tracing within the program. Upcoming contests against Army and Boston College will not be played as currently scheduled. It has yet to be determined when the program will resume team activities and return to competition. Alabama senior Kaylee Tow has been named the JWOS Player of the Week for week 2 of the Division 1 season. Guiding her team to a 4-0 record during the second week of the season, Tow posted a .786 batting average and was named the Most Valuable Player of the Easton Bama Bash. Enrico Obletter, the manager/head coach of the Italian national softball team, has passed away. He was 61 years old. The news of Obletter’s death was posted to social media by Andrea Marcon, the president of the Italian Baseball and Softball Federation. “With death in my heart, I have to inform that Enrico Obletter, manager of our National Softball, is no longer with us,” Marcon wrote.* “Immense pain, an indescribable loss. SEC softball will be seen on television nearly eighty times in 2021, the conference announced in a release on Friday. The SEC Network will carry the bulk of the programming, set to televise forty-five (45) games during the regular season. ESPNU will pick up an additional eleven games, while ten games are set to be shown on ESPN2. The LSU/Florida matchup on March 27th will air on ESPN.
