All eighteen members of the 2019 edition of the roster were extended an invitation to the Olympic tryout. That list includes red, white, and blue legends Monica Abbott and Cat Osterman, as well as Ally Carda, Shelby Pendley, and Jazmyn Jackson, who were named replacement players – that is, not on the active roster – for the USA at the Pan-American Games in August in Lima, Peru.
Eight pitchers earned invitations to the tryouts. Abbott and Osterman lead a group that also includes current roster members Carda, Keilani Ricketts, and Rachel Garcia, as well as former national team pitcher & LSU legend Carley Hoover. Montana Fouts and Megan Faraimo, both members of the U19 national team, round out the list of invited hurlers.
Taylor Edwards, the former Nebraska catcher, was the only active member of the Scrap Yard Fastpitch roster to earn an invitation to the tryout. Five players who played in the National Pro Fastpitch league during the 2019 summer season – Amanda Chidester, Hannah Flippen, Chelsea Goodacre, Amanda Lorenz, and Sydney Romero – also received invitations.
Seven active college players were invited to the tryouts. Included in that group are Garcia (UCLA, ’20); Fouts (Alabama, ’22); Faraimo (UCLA, ’22), as well as Sis Bates (Washington, ’20); Dejah Mulipola (Arizona, ’20); Bubba Nickles (UCLA, ’20); and Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza (Arizona, ’20).
Notable omissions from the roster include former Auburn great Kasey Cooper; Loyola Marymount Hall of Famer Sam Fischer; longtime former Team USA member Kelly Kretschman; South Florida pitching coach and former USA member Jessica Moore; recently-graduated James Madison great Megan Good; and ex-Ole Miss speedster Kylan Becker, who some believed may have earned an invitation after a strong performance in several exhibitions against Team USA this summer.
